Beecher scores again and is tied for the lead in the NHL in plus-minus rating

COLORADO (WETM) – Elmira’s Johnny Beecher continues to have a strong week for the Boston Bruins.

The second-year forward scored his second goal of the year late in the game on Wednesday night when he scored an empty net. Boston defeated the Avalanche 5-3 and Beecher also won two faceoffs that night. Beecher accumulated a total of 13 minutes and 23 seconds of ice time.

Beecher’s points total now gives him a season plus nine through five games, tying him for the NHL lead. Johnny is tied with Bruins teammate Cole Koepke and is one point ahead of fellow Bruins Mark Kastelic, who has a plus-eight rating. A +/- rating in the NHL is a statistic that measures the difference between the team’s total points scored over its opponent when the player is in play.

For the season, the 23-year-old Beecher now has two goals and three assists for a total of five points.

The Bruins are tied for the NHL lead with 20 team goals so far this season. They share that distinction with Utah and Pittsburgh, which also have 20.

Next up for Beecher and the Bruins (3-2-0) is a Friday night game at Utah (3-1-1).
