USF Bulls partner with Feeding Tampa Bay for pregame fundraiser

TAMPA, Fla.Before USF fans filled Raymond James Stadium to watch the Bulls’ game against the UAB Blazers on Saturday, they packed containers with hundreds of non-perishable foods for a fundraiser hosted by the athletics department and Feeding Tampa Bay.

“Was “I’m just ready to focus on efforts to help the community and best serve our fans,” said Michael Kelly, vice president of USF Athletics. “Really, partnerships like this with Feeding Tampa Bay are a great start.”

This is also one of the many ways Feeding Tampa is working to provide meals and resources to an area still reeling from the devastation caused by two hurricanes in less than a month.

I think, you know, our biggest concern and fear is the moment when someone runs out of resources and becomes even more afraid. The pressure on their family is even greater,” emphasizes Thomas Mantz, President and CEO of Feeding Tampa Bay.

Mantz told FOX 13 his team fed twice as many people as normal.

On a normal day, we deliver approximately 200,000 meals to the community. In the last 14 days we have delivered about 400,000 meals a day to the community because, first and foremost, we want to make sure that people can sit down, have something to eat and make sure that they are fed and that they are well,” Mantz added.

As they work to bring hope, relief and good meals to people in 10 counties in West Central Florida, they have embraced a number of ways to make it happen.

“We have used DoorDash and other delivery services to ensure meals are delivered to homes where we cannot get trucks to,” Mantz added. “We had mass distributions where thousands of families showed up just to get resources. So everywhere in our service area there is a different answer to the challenge we face.”
