Glen Powell seems to have found his match in the new interpretation of The running man at Paramount Pictures. Josh Brolin is in final negotiations to play the villain in the Edgar Wright-directed film based on Stephen King’s novel, which the author published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

While the details of Brolin’s role are unknown, sources say he will play the antagonist behind the violent reality show.

The film, which also stars Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra, opens on November 21, 2025. Wright is also co-writing the screenplay with Michael Bacall and will produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.

The running man made famous by the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in 2025. The story revolves around Ben Richards, a desperate man who takes part in a violent reality show called “ The running man to win enough money to revive his seriously ill daughter. The show follows Richards being pursued by numerous hunters sent to kill him.

Brolin will next release his memoirs From Under the Truck on November 19th. On the film side, he will star in the third part of the series Knife out Series, Wake up, dead man.
