OU football offense pointless

32-3: That was the halftime score. OU’s largest halftime deficit since 1997, when John Blake’s Sooners beat Texas A&M 34-0.

32 for 37: South Carolina scored 32 points in just 37 plays in the first half. The Gamecocks’ defense did all the work by forcing three OU turnovers, two of which ended in defensive touchdowns – a scoop-and-score fumble return and a pick-six.

5 out of 5: OU quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. completed all five of his passes. Three to the Sooners and two to the Gamecocks. Hawkins turned the ball over three times in the first five minutes of the game. Jackson Arnold came.

9: Here’s how OU’s nine first-half drives ended: interception, fumble, interception, punt, punt, turnover on downs, punt, field goal, punt

1.6: OU averaged 1.6 yards per play in the first quarter.

36: Yards for the Sooners in the first quarter – 18 rushing and 18 passing.

225: Arnold threw for a season-high 225 yards. He completed 53% of his passes. It was the first time this season the Sooners had a 200-yard passer.

0: Since the season opener against Temple, Jackson Arnold had not played a game without throwing an interception.

Brent Venables doesn’t make it

11-11: Brent Venables’ record in conference play: 10-8 in the Big 12, 1-3 in the SEC.

.606: Venables is 20-13 overall at OU. Only John Blake (.353) and Howard Schnellenberger (.500) have worse winning percentages as OU coaches in the last 50 years.

2: OU has lost two straight home games for the first time since 2014. OU has two home games remaining: against Maine and Alabama.

9: OU lost a home game against an opponent not in the AP rankings for the ninth time since 1999, when Bob Stoops took over as head coach.

24-2: Since 1999, the Sooners have been 24-1 in games immediately following the Red River Rivalry. They are now 24-2.
