The Cowboys’ Jerry Jones threw Dak Prescott under the bus during the radio meltdown

It’s hard to blame Dallas Cowboys fans for suffering from Jerry Jones fatigue. While Cowboys fans are usually easily bothered by Jones, the 82-year-old owner outdid himself this week by embarrassing both himself and the franchise.

It was obvious that Jones was upset after Sunday’s stunning defeat. However, he surprised everyone when he exploded during his weekly interview with 105.3 The Fan.

Jones took offense to a question about the Cowboys’ inactive offseason and responded by both dodging responsibility and threatening to eject the hosts – Shan Shariff and RJ Choppy – from the station. It’s clear that Jones expected loose ends in a bye with Dallas.

It was an ugly scene for Jones and he refused to apologize in his comments The athlete at the league meetings.

There’s nothing worse than threatening to fire someone for doing their job, but Jones was in rare form and decided to alienate Dak Prescott not once, but twice while discussing the problems of Dallas spoke.

During the interview, Jones mentioned twice that Prescott was the highest-paid player in the NFL and that production couldn’t be that low.

Statistically speaking, Jones is right. Although Prescott is third in passing yards, he is 12th in passing touchdowns, 16th in yards per attempt and has the second-most interceptions. He’s also fourth with 10 great throws, according to Pro Football Focus.

These numbers aren’t indicative of the highest-paid quarterback, but Prescott has played much better than his numbers suggest. He needs to cut down on turnovers, especially in the red zone, but he has essentially played the role of Superman in the Cowboys’ offense.

No team demands more from its QB than Dallas, and Prescott’s job is made even more difficult by Mike McCarthy’s unimaginative offense. Aside from seemingly throwing into tight windows on every dropback, Prescott doesn’t have the advantage of a running game.

The Cowboys are averaging 77.2 rushing yards per game and 3.48 yards per carry. Both figures are ranked dead last in the NFL at the start of Week 7.

We’d argue that most Cowboys fans see the value in Prescott, but Jones knows there are hordes of people who would like to scapegoat the QB. By mentioning Dak’s contract, Jones essentially shifts the target to someone else.

The Cowboys have a lot of problems right now. Prescott is not one of them. Jerry Jones, the general manager, is the greatest.
