Technical Updates: 2024 United States Grand Prix

Most teams have made improvements of varying degrees at the United States Grand Prix, with McLaren and Mercedes introducing major new packages.

The four-week break since the last race in Singapore allowed teams to focus on development and manufacturing, and the upcoming schedule of six races in eight weeks makes COTA a good opportunity to upgrade. The McLaren package includes a new front wing, new front suspension, front brake lines, rear suspension, rear brake lines and a new carrier wing as one of the most comprehensive components submitted.

In contrast, Red Bull has simply introduced a different floor specification – with an emphasis on the floor edge – and an updated engine cover, supposedly for cooling purposes. However, in order to save weight, it may happen that identical parts are manufactured lighter.

That’s still two more components than Ferrari, which doesn’t list any updates, but Mercedes, like McLaren, arrives with a number of new parts. An improved front wing, front suspension, floor lip, floor fences, sidepod intake and engine cover provide a significant revision to the car.

Aston Martin also has a significant update package that changes the front wing and front wing end plate, as well as the engine cover, floor (both floor body and floor edge) and diffuser.

Alpine also has a new body floor and floor edge, as well as body panels on the engine cover and a re-profiled rear wing, while RB has a new floor as the only upgrade. Efforts focused on the front wing, front suspension, rear suspension and rear brake duct deflectors to score the first points of the season.

There’s a major upgrade at Haas, where there’s a new sidepod intake, a completely new floor, an updated rear brake drum cascade, and changes to the engine cover outlet and cooling fins. The package only runs in FP1 on Nico Hülkenberg’s car while it is analyzed.

Like Ferrari, Williams does not list any new components.
