Garret Rangel Injury Update: Report reveals Oklahoma State QB’s injury status

Oklahoma State suffered a serious injury to his starting quarterback in Friday night’s match against BYU. Shortly before the end of the second quarter, the Cowboys’ quarterback Garret Rangel walked very carefully as he walked to the locker room with his sneakers. He landed awkwardly on his left shoulder as BYU tackled him in the open field. Rangel grimaced as coaches tried to get under his pads on the sidelines. Here’s the update from Paul Carcaterra of ESPN.

“Garret Rangel is in a lot of pain. I was walking toward the tunnel where Oklahoma State’s locker room is located and the coaches apparently had to hold the left arm to support the shoulder. He walked very carefully. Not good for Oklahoma State. “I’ll talk to Mike Gundy at halftime and give a report when we get back,” Carcaterra said.

As he headed to the locker room, OSU quarterback Alan Bowman entered the game. It was a shame because Garret Rangel had a 56-yard run in the first half. Just before halftime, he completed six of nine passes for 51 yards, throwing a touchdown and an interception. Rangel also had five carries for 79 yards.

Oklahoma State leads BYU 21-14 at halftime. Cowboys running back Ollie Gordon II was electric in the first half, rushing for over 100 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns. He is one of the best running backs in college football and Gordon showed why in the first two quarters. Gordon hasn’t been nearly as productive as in previous years, with just one 100-yard rushing game in 2024 (South Dakota State – 126 rushing yards).

As ESPN’s Paul Carcaterra emerges from the locker room, he has an update Garret Rangels status and it seems that he will not be coming back.

“Well it will all come down to Alan Bowman and Anish. Garret Rangel hasn’t even returned to the field yet. He’s still in the locker room. You saw him suffering from that upper body injury to his left shoulder. The good news, though, Mike Gundy told me, is that Ollie Gordon was great in the first half. Just give him the ball. Give him more of the ball, Gundy told me. And Oklahoma State as a team – 175 yards rushing in the first half. That’s more than in any other game this season,” Carcaterra explained on the sidelines.
