#2 Oregon shuts out Purdue – 35-0

Ledman:

Oregon got the ball early in the game and raced down the field for a 75-yard touchdown in 7 plays. Only 3:14 were left on the game clock, but at the end the game was already over. Oregon was able to do whatever it wanted on offense for most of the first half, while Purdue struggled to get things going. The only Purdue drive that looked promising for the Boilermakers ended in a field goal attempt that wasn’t even close.

Purdue went the entire first quarter without a pass. In fact, they didn’t even attempt a pass in the first half of the quarter. I’d probably have to delve deep into the history books to see when the last time this happened was.

The second half was much better for the Purdue defense. Sure, they gave up 14 points and Oregon took their foot off the gas, but for a while in the first half, especially in the first quarter, it looked like Oregon might have called their own score.
On the offensive side of the football, Purdue was one-dimensional. The passing game was more or less non-existent. However, the running game showed sparks as Purdue ran for over 200 yards. Reggie Love was in the lead, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to score points.

I’m not quite sure what to think of this yet. We knew Purdue was going to lose this game, but they definitely fought harder than I thought they would.

Ryan:

How about these uniforms?

Jed:

For the first time since 2013 at home against Ohio State, Purdue is shut out. This 2013 season was clearly a preview of the future disaster that Hazel would suffer. The question now is: Does Mike Bobinski have the patience to allow results like this to continue?

The biggest statistic that supports my thoughts? A defensive-minded head coach has been outscored 269-93 in the last six games. That’s not nearly there, and it’s time to be the first program to do something and fix everything. The crowd was great tonight at almost 60,000. I suspect we will see a big drop after the bye week.
