A teaching assistant at Langley High School in McLean was arrested last week after a student allegedly saw him masturbating in a classroom.

According to Fairfax County police, David Scalea, a 40-year-old Great Falls resident, began “inappropriately touching himself under his desk” in a classroom during school hours on Friday (Oct. 11).

“A student observed Scalea and immediately notified school administrators,” FCPD said in a news release yesterday (Monday). “No students were physically harmed.”

Administrators then alerted their school resource officer, which launched an investigation by Major Crimes Bureau detectives.

Scalea was arrested the same day and charged with obscene sexual exposure and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is currently being held without bail at the Fairfax County Adult Jail, according to police.

According to FCPD, Scalea was placed on administrative leave by Fairfax County Public Schools, which has employed him as a teaching assistant since 2020. His LinkedIn profile indicates he previously worked as a substitute teacher for FCPS from 2008 to 2019. although the school system did not immediately confirm this.
