Harris’ Fox News interview ratings blow Trump’s town hall out of the water

The ratings for Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s recent appearances on Fox News have been released – and they show the vice president drew more than twice as many viewers as her Republican rival.

With less than three weeks until Election Day and national polls on a knife-edge with Harris leading by just 2.5 points, both presidential candidates are increasingly filling the airwaves.

On Wednesday evening, Harris sat down with Bret Baier, Fox News’ political anchor, for a heated interview – her first interview with the network.

Just hours earlier, Trump’s Fox town hall in Cumming, Georgia, was on the screens, where the former president was joined by moderator Harris Faulkner, host of The Faulkner Focus, in front of an all-female sit-down audience.

Final viewership numbers released by Fox News showed Harris drew 7.8 million viewers, while Trump’s show drew 3.1 million viewers, according to data released by the network on Thursday.

Another 1.4 million people are said to have watched the midnight replay of Harris’ interview.

A statement from Fox News claimed the vice president’s interview was the “most-watched interview of the 2024 election season” since President Joe Biden withdrew from the Democratic nomination – surpassing the CNN interview of Harris and her running mate Tim Walz prime time by nearly two million viewers last month.

It added that Trump Faulkner focus The appearance was the second highest-rated episode since the series launched in January 2021.

However, Harris’ interview aired at 6 p.m. ET, two hours before prime time — which Fox finds between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekdays — while Trump’s town hall aired at 11 a.m.

Viewers ages 25 to 54 made up 14.5 percent of the total viewership for Harris’ sitdown, while the same demographic made up 14.2 percent of viewers The Faulkner Focus.

At Trump’s town hall, which Fox News said focused on women’s issues, the former president answered questions about reproductive laws and transgender rights.

At the event, which some political experts said was intended to soften his image with female voters, the former president called Alabama Sen. Katie Britt “an incredibly attractive person” before telling the all-female crowd, “I “I am the father of artificial insemination.”

Harris later mocked Trump’s self-imposed nickname, calling it “pretty bizarre,” with Democrats warning more broadly that it was a subversion Roe v. Wade and rolling back abortion rights could pave the way for the GOP candidate to target access to IVF next.

Later Wednesday, the vice president and Baier argued for nearly half an hour over illegal immigration, Biden and Trump himself.

Outside of the heated exchange, both Harris and Baier faced backlash.

The Democratic presidential candidate was accused by the interviewer of arriving 15 minutes late to the studio, which was scheduled to be recorded at 5 p.m. and broadcast at 6 p.m.

Baier was criticized for repeatedly interrupting and overtalking Harris during several of her answers.
