    Dodgers vs. Mets: LA takes a 3-1 lead after another blowout win at Citi Field

    The Los Angeles Dodgers lead 3-1 in the NLCS after a show of force in Game 4, their offense blowing away the New York Mets pitching staff early and often in a 10-2 victory.

    Shohei Ohtani gave a taste of things to come with a leadoff home run in the first inning, his first entire postseason with the bases empty. The Dodgers increased their lead by several runs in the third inning, then the fourth inning, then the sixth inning and then the eighth inning. Their offense was relentless and demanding, drawing nine walks and one hit-by-pitch from a Mets team that could be starting to feel the effects of the short starts in their rotation.

    Mets reliever Danny Young pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth frame. It was New York’s first error-free inning since the fourth inning of Game 3.

    Meanwhile, Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings and struck out eight runs. From there, the bullpen took over and didn’t allow a run, although Evan Phillips and Blake Treinen both ran into rare trouble in their appearances.

    The end result is a dire situation for the Mets, who have few good options to start on the mound in an elimination game on Friday. The possibilities:

    • Kodai Senga, still recovering from an injury that was knocked out in 1 1/3 innings of work in Game 1

    • David Peterson, who had a strong regular season as a starter but worked out of the bullpen throughout the postseason

    • Sean Manaea, who was great in Game 2 but would pitch on short rest (and throw the ball on the road)

    • A complete bullpen game that essentially became Senga’s disaster in Game 1 (the Dodgers ended up scoring nine runs).

    Meanwhile, the Dodgers will start Jack Flaherty, who threw seven scoreless innings in Game 1. They will be heavily favored in Game 5, currently scheduled for Friday at 5:08 p.m. at Citi Field (Fox Sports 1).

      The Dodgers offense did what it wanted and they are now just one win away from a pennant.

      Game 5 is scheduled for Friday at 5:08 p.m. ET with Jack Flaherty taking on TBD.

    • The Dodgers go down in order in the ninth inning. According to the FS1 broadcast, it was their first 1-2-3 inning since the fourth inning of Game 3. Their offense was that good.

      A Mets fan (we’re assuming) makes his thoughts clear on the Fox Sports 1 microphones.

    • The Mets have several options for who pitches in Game 5, and none of them are ideal. There are:

      • Kodai Senga, still recovering from an injury that was knocked out in 1 1/3 innings of work in Game 1

      With Jack Flaherty starting for the Dodgers after his seven scoreless innings in Game 1, Los Angeles is considered a heavy favorite to close out Friday’s game.

    • Edgardo Henriquez pitches a scoreless eighth inning. The end is near.

    • The Dodgers now have top defender Kevin Kiermaier pinch-run for Teoscar Hernandez in center field, pushing Andy Pages into Hernandez’s spot in left field.

    • Shohei Ohtani fouled a ball hard on his left knee and was in significant pain. He stayed in but was still noticeably limping around after a pitch. He strikes out to end the inning, and the Dodgers will now make sure he’s OK.

    • Dodgers 10, Mets 2

      Will Smith scores Edman with a single. The Dodgers have a lot of runs. Each player in his lineup has one hit. The Mets are doing poorly.

    • It’s not all good for the Dodgers. Max Muncy strikes out, ending his postseason streak on base with a record-tying 12. Hard to watch.

    • That’s a very good point. The Padres have a good rotation and one of the few lineups that can keep up with the Dodgers. San Diego had them in a bind, then their offense disappeared in the NLDS. There may not be a team better able to compete against Los Angeles this postseason.

    • Dodgers 9, Mets 2

      The Dodgers are now just trying to break the mood. Tommy Edman scores two runs with a double, which is three games in this series with at least eight runs scored.

      It’s the eighth inning and some Mets fans are leaving.

    • Teoscar Hernandez drew another walk, the Dodgers’ eighth of the game and 30th of the series. According to the broadcast, this ties the record for most players in the first four games of a championship series. Combined with the performance at the top, this is a difficult combination to beat in a series.

    • Marte flies out just before the warning track. It was busier than usual for the Dodgers bullpen in this game, but they still didn’t allow a run. The Mets have six outs left to score five runs or they will need an even bigger comeback to win this series.

    • Treinen allows a leadoff single to Francisco Lindor, then Brandon Nimmo puts runners on the corners with a two-out single. Mets have a chance to score multiple runs here, and in the end it comes down to Starling Marte.

    • Gasp, the Mets got Ohtani out with runners on base.

      It’s still 7-2 with the top of the Mets order coming in the bottom of the seventh inning. Blake Treinen stays in after throwing two pitches in the sixth.

    • Shohei Ohtani has runners on first and second and two outs, and that’s enough for Phil Maton. Left-hander Danny Young comes into the game and will look to keep this game within somewhat reasonable striking distance.

    • Dodgers rookie Andy Pages fires an 88 mph sinker into his right wrist. He was clearly in pain, but it looks like he will stay in the game.

      That’s now eight free passes given to the Dodgers lineup in this game (seven walks and the HBP). That’s almost a full round in order, in a series where preserving your bullpen is crucial.
