    Nashville Predators vs. Edmonton Oilers live score: highlights, stats, TV channel

    The Nashville Predators continue to come away empty-handed at the start of the 2024-25 season.

    Nashville played a more encouraging team game on Thursday, but the Edmonton Oilers cruised to a 4-2 victory over the Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

    The Predators were 0-4-0 in the regular season.

    Nashville opened the scoring with a tip-in goal from Filip Forsberg off a shot from the point by Roman Josi, the team’s first lead of the season.

    Edmonton tied the game late in the first period on a superb laser from Brett Kulak and took the lead midway through the second period on a goal by Jeff Skinner after a scramble in front of the net just after an Oilers power play expired.

    The Predators’ best power play came in the final minute with a four-minute man advantage, with Jonathan Marchessault scoring his first goal for Nashville after a nice assist from Josi. Less than a minute later, Connor McDavid gave the Oilers the lead again with his first goal of the season.

    The third period was largely uneventful, although Juuse Saros made a nice save midway through the final 20 minutes during a 3-on-2 duel by the Oilers’ top forward line. Nashville had an empty net in the final two minutes, but Kulak scored into the empty net with 36 seconds left to end the game.

    Nashville returns to the ice on Saturday for an afternoon game against the Detroit Red Wings.

    Immediately after the Marchessault goal, Edmonton’s top line snaps and Connor McDavid beats Juuse Saros with a rebound. McDavid scores his first goal of the season, Leon Draisaitl and Mattias Ekholm provide the assists.

    In the final minute of a four-minute 5-on-4 lead for the Predators after a high penalty by Edmonton, Roman Josi runs into the offensive zone after a pass from Juuse Saros, and Josi throws it into the net, where Jonathan Marchesault beats Calvin Pickard for the Goal. Very nice performance from the Predators’ top power play.

    At the end of a long power play with two penalties in Nashville and more than three minutes left for Edmonton, the Oilers score a goal shortly after the end of the game when Jeff Skinner shoots the puck through several bodies and into the net. Might have been the last to emerge from a Nashville skater. Juuse Saros was sprawled out and had finally removed his mask after contact with Skinner.

    Just moments after Edmonton’s Darnell Nurse and Nashville’s Michael McCarron argued, Edmonton gained control of the puck on the fourth line and defenseman Brett Kulak scored with a clean shot from up the court that beat Juuse Saros. Saros had to deal with a lot of traffic up front during the game, but this was a qualified shot from Kulak.

    Roman Josi’s shot from the point is relayed by Filip Forsberg for the first goal of the game and Nashville’s first lead of the season.

    Edmonton had its first eight shots on goal of the game, but the Predators led 1-0. Josi and Ryan O’Reilly receive the assists for Forsberg’s second goal of the season.

    Luke Schenn will be his 1,000th tonight. Play an NHL game. It’s a career that has spanned 17 seasons and eight franchises, including 66 games over the last two seasons with the Predators. He has 198 career points (43 goals, 155 assists), two away from reaching another round career mark.
