ALBUQUERQUE, NM – We will see scattered showers and a few storms on a mostly cloudy and cool and windy Thursday in New Mexico.

Our chances of rain remain relatively higher, with precipitation peaking on Saturday before falling on Sunday. Temperatures will rise again by next week.

Until then, some of us will still have a taste of winter.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Apache County in eastern Arizona, including the Chuska Mountains and Window Rock. Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected above 7,500 feet elevation from midday Friday through 6 a.m. Sunday. Gusts up to 40 miles per hour are possible.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the San Juan Mountains from 6 a.m. Friday through noon Sunday. Heavy snow is expected above 9,000 feet. Accumulations of 12 to 24 inches, with 40 inches at the highest peaks, and blowing snow with gusts up to 45 mph are possible.

There is a chance of strong to severe storms across the eastern Plains on Friday and Saturday. These storms could bring large hail and damaging wind gusts.

It will be a cool and windy Thursday with showers and mostly cloudy skies. For current conditions, visit KOB.com/Weather.
