“Prince Charming” movie in the works at Disney

Prince Charming, the love interest of many Disney princesses, is getting his very own feature film.

“Wonka” filmmaker Paul King, who also directed the first two “Paddington” features, is directing “Prince Charming” for Disney. King, Simon Barnaby and Jon Croker are co-writing the script, but plot details have not yet been confirmed. It is unclear whether the film will be live-action or animated.

In classic fairy tales, Prince Charming is someone who rescues a damsel in distress and sets out to rescue her from evil forces/stepmothers. See: “Cinderella,” “Snow White,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Rapunzel,” and virtually every other Disney film of the 20th century (the time period, not the film studio). However, in these films he is usually a supporting character and not the main character. Although Prince Charming was originally Cinderella’s love interest, this project will not be specifically associated with the curfew-breaking princess, according to Deadline Hollywood, which reported the news of the Prince Charming movie and King’s involvement.

King, the 46-year-old British director, most recently brought “Wonka,” an origin story starring Timothee Chalamet in the role of the famous fictional chocolatier, to $218 million domestically and $634 million at the global box office. The commercial success was a sweet surprise for Warner Bros. and the theater owners who benefited from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory spinoff. King also directed the popular 2014 film Paddington and its 2017 sequel, which grossed a total of $615 million worldwide. Although he isn’t directing the upcoming threequel titled Paddington in Peru, he has helped create the story of the latest adventure about everyone’s favorite jam-loving bear.
