LOS ANGELES – Montana Jordan and Emily Osment give their best for “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.” In fact, the “Young Sheldon” stars even happen to be living versions of their on-screen lives in Chuck Lorre’s “Young Sheldon” spinoff.

Take 21-year-old Jordan, who played older brother George “Georgie” Cooper Jr., to Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) in “Young Sheldon” and married Mandy McAllister (Osment) after their affair unexpectedly resulted in a little girl, CeeCee, had emerged.

That deep Texas accent and youthful fathering skills are “the real deal” for Longview, Texas, native Jordan, whose girlfriend Jenna Weeks gave birth to a daughter, Emma Rae, in May.

And there’s “Hannah Montana” alum Osment, 32, who had to leave Hollywood for her real-life first marriage, an Oct. 13 wedding to fiancé Jack Anthony, just before CBS’s big TV debut of “First Marriage” on Thursday (Aug. 8). EDT/PDT). ).

“This is five days before the premiere,” says Osment. “I have to say, I had my wedding date first. And when they said we would start the show on October 17th, I asked, ‘Why does this date sound so familiar?’

It’s already been a wild ride for the second spin-off series from the expanding Big Bang Theory universe, set to ride on the shoulders of Osment’s former local weatherwoman Mandy and her 12-years-younger husband – Jordan’s perpetually underrated sibling. The story is already set: George Jr. (Georgie) becomes the financially successful, twice-divorced founder of Dr. Tire store chain, played by Jerry O’Connell in some episodes of “Big Bang”.

The big mystery is how Georgie gets there from “First Marriage,” which comes out just five months after “Young Sheldon” ends in May. The series finale of the seven-season sitcom saw the Cooper family mourn dead patriarch George Sr. and Sheldon leaving Texas for Caltech (preordained in “Big Bang”).

For Jordan and Osment, as well as executive producers Steve Holland and Steven Molaro, “First Marriage” required a quick move from the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank to a new studio built for live studio audiences. (“Big Bang” had one, but “Sheldon” didn’t.) There’s also a new Texas setting, as the struggling family moves into the family home with good-natured father Jim (Will Sasso) and critical mother Audrey (Rachel). McAllister drafts Bay Jones).

During a bridge rehearsal the day before filming Episode 7, several key factors become apparent. The family tension in the crowded house is palpable as the game ends in an argument. “There is a baby; there is an age difference,” says Molaro. “It’s realistic that they work at it and fail here and there.”

And even in rehearsals, Jordan proves to be a master at shuffling cards, a skill he developed from zero to one-handed riffle stacking under professional guidance. “This one-handed mixing was the hardest part,” he says. “I told the wizard I could really use bigger hands for this.”

The opening of “First Marriage,” in which Jordan and Osment dance a spicy TV Texas tango during the credits, required nimble feet. “Rockiness is embedded in the title of ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,'” says Molaro. “The give and take of tango is playful and the fiery, romantic nature, all captured in a 26-second dance.”

Those few seconds required five days of rehearsals with “Dancing With the Stars” instructors who trained the couple in tango, particularly Latin dance newbie Jordan. “I’m from Texas, man,” Jordan says. “Maybe we’ll do a little two-stepping. That’s all. Tango wasn’t on my wish list. Now he is.”

He shows the same smiling determination as his optimistic film character. “My joke is that we keep throwing things at Montana until we find something he can’t do,” Holland says. “We didn’t find it.”

Whether Jordan and Osment can make a sitcom is the ultimate skill that has yet to be proven. You will have help. The cast of Young Sheldon has recurring roles, including Meemaw (Annie Potts), Georgie’s sister Missy (Raegan Revord) and Mother (Zoe Perry). The entire group (minus Sheldon) appears in a Thanksgiving episode.

“According to ‘Big Bang’ lore, Sheldon doesn’t come home often,” says Holland. “He and Georgie argue about that later. But the door is open for Iain.”

Even the same baby actors, a pair of twins, traveled to “First Marriage” to play CeeCee. Their scenes are filmed away from the studio audience, which doting TV dad Jordan fully understands. “Damn, I’m a grown man and sometimes I cry when I see 180 people looking at me,” he says. When asked, he admits that he enjoyed his first opportunity to perform “First Marriage” in front of a studio audience. “Tuesdays are like Friday Night Lights for a football player,” he says. “You go out there and showcase everything you’ve done all week. Every week we open a new chapter.”

As for truly new chapters, Osment was able to pull off her wedding before the debut of “First Marriage,” with actor brother Haley Joel Osment serving as best man. “This is a very big time in my life and it’s completely unexpected for all of this to happen in the same month,” she says. “When it rains, it pours; I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Looking to the future, Osment hopes in “First Marriage” that the young couple will find happiness, even if divorce is inevitable. “I always imagined Mandy and Georgie would be her first husband and wife And her second husband and wife; “This is my dream,” she says. “At some point it will break her.” But they love each other and could get back together. I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
