Universal Orlando sets opening date and packages for new Epic Universe theme park

Universal Orlando Resort announced that its highly anticipated fourth theme park – Universal Epic Universe – will officially open on May 22, 2025, ending speculation about the unveiling of its most ambitious park with five new worlds.

Universal Destinations and Experiences, a division of Comcast’s NBCUniversal, today called Epic Universe “the next game-changer in theme park entertainment.” With more than 50 incredible experiences in total, ranging from groundbreaking attractions to breathtaking entertainment to incredibly themed dining and shopping and much more, Epic Universe will deliver a level of theme park immersion and innovation across five themed worlds that is unparalleled.”

These include Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk and Dark Universe. The park’s anchor is the 500-room Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a Loews hotel with a private entrance to Epic Universe for guests with theme park admission.

The park has been in the works for years, construction was delayed by Covid. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts highlighted this in last year’s earnings calls, and Wall Street wondered what impact the new Orlando park would have on Walt Disney World. Disney CEO Bob Iger said Epic Universal is not a “fear factor” for Disney, which is in the midst of a multibillion-dollar upgrade of its theme parks.

As the entire media business becomes more complex, parks backed by great intellectual property are good business, even if attendance has declined following the post-Covid surge.

“This is a pivotal moment for our destination and we are excited to welcome guests to Epic Universe next year,” said Karen Irwin, president and COO of Universal Orlando Resort. “With the addition of this spectacular new theme park, our guests will have an unforgettable vacation experience with a week of thrills that will be nothing short of epic! Our universe will never be the same.”

Multi-day tickets and packages will go on sale next week.

Specific products being introduced in an initial phase include various multi-day tickets and vacation packages for three, four or five days of entry to Universal’s theme parks – including one day entry to Epic Universe. These products will go on sale on Tuesday, October 22nd.

Reservations for the Universal Helios Grand Hotel will open on Tuesday, October 22, for stays beginning May 22, 2025.

Starting Thursday, October 24, Annual Passholders will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase Day Passes for the Universal Epic Universe before they go on sale to the general public.

Universal said it is taking a phased approach to ticket sales to accommodate guests planning longer-term trips and to accommodate expected demand.
