ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The progress is obvious.

And this also applies to the areas in which further improvements are possible.

Before a “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the New Orleans Saints, rookie quarterback Bo Nix said he could identify areas where he’s made progress since the start of the season. However, the signal giver also recognizes that there is plenty of room for growth.

“While I see progress, I still see some that I leave out there,” Nix said Tuesday. “It’s a happy medium – a fine line between both – feeling like I’m making progress, but at the same time there are things that I keep looking at and observing that I know I’m capable of. It’s good to see that. Progress and progress, but I’m not where I want to be yet.

Since the Broncos’ 0-2 start, in which Nix recorded a total touchdown and four interceptions, he has thrown a total of six touchdowns – including five touchdown passes – and one interception over the last four weeks. In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, Nix led the Broncos to three goals as part of a furious comeback that ultimately came up just one possession short.

After going 4-of-14 for 27 yards, two sacks and an interception over three quarters, Nix threw for two touchdowns and nearly 200 yards in the final frame, giving him a quarterback rating of 143.2.

During the Broncos’ recent three-game winning streak, Nix played clean football and showed the ability to get the ball out of the way.

As Nix prepares to take on a Saints defense that ranks 23rd in points allowed and 32nd in total defense, he said the ability to get reps in different game scenarios has already proven invaluable have.

“I think it’s really important,” Nix said. “There are all kinds of experiences – new experiences – for me. It’s important to me to treat each and every one of them as if they were different and to learn as much as I can and grow as much as I can from them. We have.’ We’ve literally been in almost every situation possible at this point. We just have to keep fighting, take it one game at a time and keep learning as we get our opportunities and not keep making the same mistakes.”

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton said he’s seen signs that Nix isn’t destined to make the same mistakes as the team strives for offensive improvement.

“He’s making moves,” Sutton said Tuesday. “He’s making great strides to get to where he ultimately wants to be. It was really exciting to see him develop. I know I say it every week, but it’s the truth. At the end of the day, that’s what we want.” I think he’s getting better every week.

Sutton acknowledged that the Broncos “left opportunities open,” but said Nix’s tendency to alert Sutton to those missed opportunities encouraged him.

“I’ll see it, and then he’ll see it, and then I’ll see him the next day or something and he’ll say, ‘Hey, have you seen this play? We can play this in the future if it comes to it.’ back,” Sutton said. “Having that (connection) and us both seeing that, and other guys, other pass catchers and other guys in our offense being able to see those things and recognize those things and know that there’s more at stake case encouraging.”

With a crucial matchup against the Saints, Nix, Sutton and the rest of the Broncos offense will look to continue that progress.

“The standard is still very high and I’m still working to achieve it,” Nix said.
