Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino and his company were hit with a proposed multimillion-dollar class action lawsuit following a data breach earlier this year.

Back in May, a hacking group called ShinyHunters breached the database of Ticketmaster, a subsidiary of Live Nation, and collected 1.3 terabytes of information, including personal and credit card information, for approximately 560 million customers.

In June, the company confirmed in a federal filing with the SEC that it was actively investigating the breach, despite knowing about it at the time of the incident. The class action lawsuit accuses Live Nation and Ticketmaster of negligent conduct by allowing hackers to run rampant and failing to alert users that their personal information had been compromised.


Who is Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation?

Michael Rapino has been the company’s CEO and president for nearly two decades. Under his leadership, the brand operated in over 40 countries and generated annual sales of over $10 billion.

In 2010, he championed the merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster, which resulted in what we now know as a $10 billion company. He also sits on the board of Sirius XM Holdings.

According to the official website, under Rapino’s leadership, the company invested in major music festivals such as Insomniac, Electric Daisy Carnival and Lollapalooza. By 2017, he was committed to another big move: the acquisition of Salt Lake City-based United Concerts, Napa’s Bottlerock Festival and Blue Note Entertainment.

His achievements include having an impressive portfolio and leading the company’s investment in RedRock Entertainment Services, a production company that manages large live events and similar projects.

Additionally, during his tenure, the company secured contracts with giants like Taylor Swift and Jay-Z, allowing Live Nation to manage their tours.

In 2016, Rapino ventured into the film and television industry and founded Live Nation Productions. The lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster was filed Friday in California federal court and seeks unspecified damages of about $55 million on behalf of the millions of users whose data was compromised. The company is among the many targets of cyberattacks this year, along with companies like Disney, Roku and AT&T.
