    How to see the rare Tsuchinshan ATLAS comet in Florida tonight

    October is shaping up to be a very heavenly month. Last week, a rare glimpse of the Northern Lights was seen across much of the United States in areas where they are not normally seen. Now stargazers can spot a comet that hasn’t been seen in 80,000 years.

    Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) will be visible deep in western Florida after sunset through the end of October. There are different ways to detect the comet. The best time to see it is between October 14th and 24th.

    October’s Hunter’s Moon will also be notable because it is a supermoon that occurs when the moon comes closest to Earth during its 27-day orbit, perigee.

    Can Florida see comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS tonight?

    Yes! Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) will be visible in Florida, and if you capture it at the right time, you should be able to see it without the need for a telescope or binoculars for the best look.

    Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was previously visible in the Southern Hemisphere and will now be visible in the Northern Hemisphere until October 31st. The best time to see it is tonight through October 24th.

    When will Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS be visible in Florida this evening?

    The best time to see comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is just after sunset. NASA says the comet’s tail is well lit by remaining sunlight, so you don’t need special equipment to spot it as it passes by Earth.

    According to Astronomy Magazine, the comet will become visible 15 minutes after sunset on Wednesday, followed by 30 minutes after sunset over the following four days before disappearing from our view.

    The sun will set around 6:45 p.m. (CDT) in Florida this evening, so you should look for the comet around 7:00 p.m. (CDT). To get the best estimate, look at where the sun will set in your location and allow an extra 15 minutes.

    How to see the Tsuchinshan ATLAS comet in Florida

    Once you’ve timed it right, all you have to do is look for the comet’s tail. It’s best to try to spot him right after sunset so his tail is brighter. You should also look west.

    If you have the necessary equipment, you can grab a pair of binoculars or a telescope to get a better look at the comet. Again, you should look at the area directly above where the sun sets.

    If you’re having trouble seeing it or want to be sure you remember something from the event, grab your phone and set up a tripod (or a makeshift one). Just like photographing the Northern Lights, you should use your phone’s night scene setting or manually set the shutter speed low – the longer the better.

    Lowering your phone’s shutter speed will open the aperture for a longer period of time, allowing more light to be captured and allowing you to photograph the comet passing by.

    However, the slightest movement could ruin the photo, so it’s definitely recommended to grab a tripod or position your phone so you can capture a picture of the western sky rather than trying to hold it yourself.
