What’s next for the offensive line?

Left tackle Andrew Thomas is out for the season after recovering from a foot injury.

Brian Daboll confirmed the news before practice on Wednesday as the 2-4 Giants prepare to visit the 3-2 Eagles. The head coach provided some more injury updates and game notes.

Here’s everything you need to know:

📰 “Everything was successful” during the operation. “He had a Lisfranc. I texted back and forth with him this morning. It worked well. I just feel terrible for him.”

📰 Daboll said “You can’t replace Thomas”. The former fourth overall pick was elected team captain for the third consecutive year.

📰 Speaking of captains: Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence will not practice due to a hip injury. Also missing will be full-back Brian Burns, who is struggling with a groin injury but hasn’t missed a game.

“I’m not going to get into whether I think they’ll train tomorrow. They are everyday.”

Entering Week 7, the Giants had 26 sacks, their highest total in six games since 30 in 1985.

📰 Wide receiver Malik Nabers is “doing much better” and will return to practice in the red non-contact jersey. Daboll is “optimistic” for the rookie, who missed the last two games with a concussion.

📰 Running back Devin Singletary will practice in some capacity after missing the last two games with a groin injury. He was limited all of last week before being demoted to out.

📰 Daboll said they would open practice Wednesday with Joshua Ezeudu at left tackle while Jermaine Eluemunor remains in place at right tackle. They will rotate offensive line combinations throughout the week and make a final decision on Friday.

📰 Throughout the season, Evan Neal has taken the “most” of his practice shots at right tackle in case something were to happen to Eluemunor. The same went for Ezeudu and Thomas on the left.

“We have moved Ezeudu quite a bit in the last six weeks for certain reasons I would say. But we have (guard Aaron) Stinnie in there, who would be one of the first ones in there. He (Ezeudu) really focused on him.” He’s trying to improve there on the left side in tackles and Evan has done the same on the right side in tackles and looks. They’re both making progress, but that’s the life of one. You have to make sure you’re ready to go.

📰 The Giants have “talked” about the possibility of moving Eluemunor to left tackle.

📰 Thomas was part of a starting offense that had played 100 percent of the snaps together in six games. Daboll believes that in the event of an injury, it is always easier to replace just one position rather than replacing multiple players. “But you want to make sure you do the right thing for the team because they’ve done a good job.”

📰 The next person “must step in just like Azeez (Ojulari)” for Kayvon Thibodeaux. “That’s the expectation of being on the football team and being ready when your number is called.”

📰 Will Neal continue to work exclusively on the right side? “We talked about it. There is a possibility that we could also train him on the left side. We will now focus him on the right side and continue to help him develop his game.”

📰 What did Daboll see from Ezeudu? “He has improved. However, in training, in the duels, in the exhibition team, in terms of the reps he gets for Andrew or whoever we put him in. I think (offensive line coach) Carm (Carmen Bricillo). ) and (assistant offensive line coach) James (Ferentz) have done a good job in his development. He won’t be Ezeudu, just like Evan. But it has improved A variety of areas with all these younger players. That’s what it has to be, regardless of position.

📰 Daboll said they will not be opening practice windows this week for players currently on injured reserve. Kicker Graham Gano is also on this list.

📰 On Sunday, the Giants’ first game will be against running back Saquon Barkley, who was named one of the 100 greatest players in franchise history to celebrate his 100thTh Season. “I know the people around him have a lot of respect for Saquon. Our job will be to do what we have to do. He is a difficult player to defend and we will have our hands full.”

📰 Punter Jamie Gillan, who was inactive on Sunday after feeling tightness in his left hamstring at the end of the training week, will not take part on Wednesday.
