Is “Shocking End” preparing for season 3?

🚨 Warning: Read on for spoilers about the end of Tell Me Lies season 2.

Have Stephen and Lucy changed by the end of Tell Me Lies season 2? Maybe – they’ve gotten worse.

The second season of the Hulu series, based on Carola Lovering’s novel of the same name, continues the toxic entanglement between Stephen and Lucy, beginning in college in 2008 and continuing through their friends’ wedding in 2015.

“I really hope (the show) has better prepared the audience to deal with ‘Stephens of the World,'” executive producer and showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer told TODAY.com in an interview. “Hopefully watching the show will help people recognize some of these warning signs.”

While the showrunner says Stephen wasn’t meant to beSo Although he is completely sociopathic that there is no real love in him, his behavior in the series is often shockingly cold. In an interview with The Wrap, actor Jackson White described his character as someone who hurts the people he loves because it “feels good.”

Stephen struggles with being what he calls a “bad person” in Season 2. In Lucy he finds someone who not only sees and accepts his badness, but loves him anyway – and can keep up with her in certain moments.

“How much has this relationship inherently changed her DNA and how far can she ever move away from some of those impulses that were expressed in her?” Oppenheimer asks.

The finale, which aired on October 16, shows Stephen falling even deeper. In addition, the other characters in the ensemble drama also have to deal with their own traumas and tragedies.

Below we’ll recap what happened and get Oppenheimer’s thoughts on this final twist.

What happens at the end of “Tell Me Lies” season 2?

Weddings. Deaths. Breakups. Goodbye Then Breakups. The second season finale of “Tell Me Lies” had it all: the storylines reached tragic and shocking climaxes, both in college and at the wedding of Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evans (Branden Cook).

Wrigley experiences another tragedy with his brother. How does Drew die?

Wrigley (Spencer House) finally reconciles with his brother Drew (Benjamin Wadsworth) in the finale. After last season’s drama, he had been absent this season.

As you’ll recall, Drew was driving one of the cars during the accident that killed Macy, Lucy’s roommate. (Stephen was driving the other car, with Macy in the passenger seat). Many This happens on that front in Season 1, but it’s worth remembering that Wrigley and Drew got into a fistfight and Wrigley fell off a balcony, ending his football career.

Wrigley and Drew go out to celebrate the ice melting between them. In the mood to party, Wrigley gives him some of his painkillers. Took an overdose and died. The pills, Wrigley explains, were delayed-release, meaning they didn’t take effect immediately—so Drew kept taking more.

“Spencer just blew me away in the last two episodes. He made me cry, which doesn’t happen very often,” Oppenheimer says of House’s harrowing performance leading up to Wrigley and Drew’s reconciliation and its tragic end.

In the aftermath, Stephen delves into the anonymous letter Lucy wrote about Drew’s role in Macy’s death, but for which Pippa (Sonia Mena) was blamed. Wrigley forgives Stephen.

Drew’s death had been predicted earlier in the series. After she comments on Wrigley’s behavior leading up to their wedding, Evan tells Bree, “Yesterday was his brother’s birthday, so maybe take it easy with him.”

In an interview with Variety, Oppenheimer shared that Season 1 was originally supposed to end with Drew’s death and that she wanted Wrigley to end the season “destroyed” to explain how his future would unfold.

Bree realizes the truth about her professor’s marriage

After her breakup with Evan, Bree becomes involved with her professor’s husband, Oliver (played by Oppenheimer’s real-life husband, Tom Ellis). He gives the impression that their relationship is a secret from his wife Marianne (Gabriella Pession).

It turns out that she is fully aware of this and that they have an open marriage. Oliver had manipulated Bree into believing they had an emotional connection. Furthermore, Marianne knows details about Oliver’s relationship with her. Bree leaves the entanglement feeling betrayed.

“Obviously in the end he’s very terrible, very manipulative and a very, very different type of abuser,” Oppenheimer says. “I think it was interesting to see the different types of mental and emotional abuse and power dynamics and relationships.”

Oppenheimer says viewers should change their minds about Oliver as the season progresses.

“We never wanted people to know exactly what they thought of this character. We wanted it to feel a little bit like they were getting whiplash, because that’s what Bree experiences,” she says.

In revenge, Bree, Pippa and Lucy bring bats to his car, which is parked on campus. No word on whether anyone is pressing charges.

Leo, Lucy and Stephen have a love triangle

After meeting Stephen, Lucy immediately goes to Leo, her recent ex, and tries to win him back. Then Stephen confronts Leo at a party and tells him what happened between them. They get into a fist fight.

In the present day, Lucy once again finds herself torn between Stephen and another man – this time it’s Max (Edmund Donovan).

Diana frees herself from Stephen

Don’t underestimate Diana (Alicia Crowder)! She escapes her love triangle with Stephen unscathed; The same cannot be said for Lucy.

Diana seems to know that the only way to get Stephen the shark off her trail is to become a failure to him. He sees her as a lift into the upper class – and used her father to give her an internship at law school. She lies about failing her LSAT, which caused him to no longer be interested. She also gives the impression that her father cut off her credit card.

“You know Stephen. I had to make him believe it was his idea,” Diana says as her father picks her up from campus.

At the time of the wedding, Diana is dating Pippa, Wrigley’s ex.

Stephen finds out about Lucy and Evan

Bree and Evan broke up at the start of season two when he admitted he had been unfaithful to her. What viewers know, and what Stephen later learns, is that he went along with it Lucy the night of the Hawaiian party.

After Lucy and Stephen get back together in the finale, Evan confesses to Stephen. Stephen seems to take the news in stride – but is withholding the information until he can get revenge.

When he returns, he records Evan’s confession. “You’re going to tell Bree and ruin my life?” Evan asks. Stephen replies, “Not today.” He meant that literally. (More on that in a moment).

Stephen meets Lydia again

After Evan’s confession, Stephen meets Lydia (Natalee Linez), Lucy’s childhood friend – and the woman he was engaged to at the time of their wedding.

In the previous episode, Lucy falsely claims she was sexually abused by Lydia’s brother Chris, ending their friendship. (Chris had actually assaulted other women, but the charges were dropped).

Lydia apologizes to Stephen for treating him badly before. She went off Lucy’s stories. “You can’t believe a word that comes out of Lucy’s mouth. “She honestly just hates men,” Lydia says.

Apparently she likes Stephen Only at the right (or wrong) time – he’s desperate to get revenge on Lucy for sleeping with Evan. What better way than to meet up with her childhood best friend?

They part ways, but we know there’s more to come. In the present day, Lydia tells Lucy that she will “never forgive” her for “any of this,” implying that she means what happened to Chris.

What happens at Bree and Evans’ wedding – and what’s next?

Today, at Bree and Evans’ wedding, Lucy succumbs to Stephen’s temptation. But then her recurring lover doesn’t show up at the wedding.

While Lucy searches for Stephen, Bree hears by him. Just before Bree is about to enter the hallway, she receives a text from Stephen with audio of Evan’s confession from college.

Shortly after walking down the aisle, Bree wears her wedding dress and learns the news that her fiancé slept with her best friends years ago.

Oppenheimer says Stephen’s “fatal flaw” is his need for revenge. “Anyone who really, really hurts him will find a way to hurt him more,” she says.

“He planned it from the moment Evan told him. I think he knew, ‘I’m going to use this information when it’s most damaging.’ He’d been at it for a long time,” Oppenheimer says.

Originally, says Oppenheimer, the plan was for Stephen to confront Bree in person before the wedding and say, “I have to tell you something.” Then the scene would fade to black. Then Oppenheimer had an epiphany.

“When we were filming the second-to-last episode, I thought, ‘He has to actually tell her what it is.’ Because in reality, Steven will never be there to drop the bomb if he’s already miles away in a getaway car,” she says.

At the very end of the season, Lucy approaches Bree and they look at their reflections in the mirror. “Are you ready?” Lucy asks.

Looking ahead, Oppenheimer believes Bree “deserves a little revenge.”

“We really tested them. She’s the innocent one in the whole (show),” she says. “If there is a third season, I hope Bree gets some kind of warpath.”

Oppenheimer can’t decide whether Bree will get married – “but if she does, I don’t think it’s a good thing.”

“I think it would be interesting to see her go through with the marriage and still seek revenge afterwards. Bree is also probably someone who can probably cheat for a long time,” she says.
