Man takes Russell’s viper snake with him on hospital trip after being bitten by it in Bhagalpur

Bihar: A unique case came to light at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College & Hospital in Bhagalpur on Tuesday evening. Prakash Mandal (48), a resident of Mirachak, took a Russell’s viper snake to the hospital after being bitten by it, jagran.com reported. Prakash was lying in his house on Tuesday evening when the snake bit his hand and surprisingly he decided to catch it and take it straight to the hospital. Prakash’s family members also accompanied him.

Hospital staff responds

The hospital staff was worried and confused when they saw the snake in Prakash’s hand. Prakash squeezed the snake’s mouth as he lay down on the stretcher to be taken to the infirmary where the doctor gave him an injection after examining the snake. Meanwhile, Prakash’s family kept the snake in a sack on the hospital premises.

According to health manager Veeramani, Prakash’s treatment is underway and the snake has been brought to safety. Forest department officials have been informed about the snake, she added.

In another unrelated incident, a 22-year-old man died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Chhattisgarh. Local residents responded to the tragedy by burning the reptile alive at the man’s funeral pyre, fearing it could pose a danger to others in the community.

The incident took place in Baigamar village in Korba district of Chhattisgarh when Digeshwar Rathiya was bitten by a krait while preparing his bed at home.

Despite immediate efforts to seek medical attention, Rathiya succumbed to the venomous bite the next morning at a government hospital in Korba. Rathiya alerted his family members following which he was rushed to a government hospital in Korba where he died during treatment on Sunday morning, news agency PTI reported quoting an official.
