NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – After a windy and warm Sunday, a cold front will push through overnight, bringing a huge drop in temperatures for the week ahead.

The afternoon highs will change drastically over the next few days. High temperatures will rise from 80° on Sunday to 60° on Monday. Temperatures will continue to dip into the 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday, but some locations will not even climb above 50, particularly in our eastern counties and on the Cumberland Plateau.

On Wednesday and especially Thursday morning we will see widespread temperatures around 30°C, meaning frost is likely once the wind dies down. This is the first time since April 22 that temperatures in Nashville have dipped above 30 degrees. Wind will be a factor.

On Wednesday morning temperatures will be in the upper 30s in the city and in the mid 30s outside the city. That’s cold enough for frost in remote areas, BUT wind will still blow, which could limit its extent. HOWEVER, all of our hills and valleys may experience frost in areas where the wind may decrease.

There will be calm winds on Thursday morning. Even in the city of Nashville there will be widespread frost and we expect a light frost in our eastern and southeastern sections.

If you have sensitive plants or vegetation, play it safe and start protecting Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and especially Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

This postponement is right on schedule. Nashville typically sees its first morning in the 30s on October 16th, which happens to be this Wednesday.

These temperatures will feel cold as it has been about seven months since we have experienced such low temperatures. Get those heavy coats out of storage because you’re going to need them this week!
