Cool rain showers are forecast for Tuesday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest on your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are observing mostly cloudy skies and occasional cool rain showers in the afternoon. The best chance of seeing these showers will be during the midday and afternoon hours. Temperatures today are unlikely to get above the low to mid 50s, and that’s if there’s no rain. During the rain showers temperatures are likely to drop to over 40°C. There’s also a chance there will be a few rumbles of thunder and even some ice pellets from the thundershowers.

Skies will attempt to clear tonight and this will see temperatures drop to the low to mid 30s. Due to temperatures near freezing, a frost warning is in effect for the entire area. If you have delicate plants outdoors, make sure you take steps to protect them from the cold. We will also fall near daily record lows in central and eastern Kentucky. The record low for October 16th is 32 in Lexington, and we’ll drop to around that level to start your Wednesday.

There will be a little more sunshine on Wednesday afternoon than on Tuesday and it will be one to two degrees warmer. There will also be a light breeze that will appear to be approaching the low 50s. Another widespread frost is expected from Wednesday night into Thursday. Clear skies, very light winds and dry air will lead to temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s across the region early Thursday.

We expect it to be warm through the end of the week and into the weekend. Friday morning will start with some patchy frost, but we’ll climb back into the mid to upper 60s as the afternoon progresses. The warm-up will continue into the weekend and into next week. Afternoon highs will return to the low 70s on both Saturday and Sunday. It’s looking like another fantastic weekend at Keeneland for the third weekend of the fall meet. We expect it to be warm and mostly dry next week. The Climate Prediction Center indicates that most of the region will experience above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation during this period.
