Lakers lose preseason game against Warriors in Las Vegas

The Los Angeles Lakers returned to the court for further preseason preparations on Tuesday evening, facing the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas. It was the Lakers’ first game at T-Mobile Arena since they won their first NBA Cup there last December.

Even though this was just a preseason game, it’s always fun to see LeBron James and Stephen Curry compete on a basketball court. They’re enemies again after teaming up to win gold for USA Basketball at the Olympics last summer, and in that game it was Curry and the Warriors who came out on top with a 111-97 win over the Lakers had in front.

The Lakers got off to a hot start as Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura both scored from distance to take a 10-3 lead. However, Curry helped his team settle in with a three-pointer of his own, and the Warriors regained the lead midway through the quarter.

Anthony Davis got going offensively with 11 points in the final minutes of the first quarter, but the Warriors were hot from three points and led 31-28 early in the second quarter.

The Warriors stayed hot early in the second quarter, extending their lead to eight before Reaves ended the run with a triple.

Davis continued his dominance in the first half as he returned to the game, and after trailing by 10, the Lakers finished the half strong, cutting their deficit to 55-51. However, Curry beat the buzzer with a long triple, giving the Warriors a 58-51 halftime lead.

After a quiet first half, D’Angelo Russell began the third quarter with consecutive three-pointers. However, aside from him and Davis, the Lakers continued to struggle offensively.

The Lakers’ stars were out about halfway through the third period, giving the young players more opportunities in the preseason. However, after beating the third quarter buzzer with another three-pointer, the Warriors took their largest lead of the night, 83-70, heading into the fourth quarter.

Curry came back into the game to start the fourth and immediately led a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 18. With the game virtually out of reach, JJ Redick let Jalen Hood-Schifino, Bronny James and the rest of the Summer League team finish the fourth quarter.

While Dalton Knecht struggled on the court while playing with the regular rotation players, he scored a few goals to close the game, which was beneficial for the Lakers when they suffered a stunning loss in the preseason, falling to 1-3 .

What’s next for the Lakers?

The Lakers will close out the preseason with a rare meeting by facing the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night and the Warriors again on Friday. Meanwhile, Opening Night is just a week away as the Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves next Tuesday.
