Hayley Erbert is back in the ballroom.

Almost a year after a devastating medical emergency, the dancer gave an emotional performance alongside her husband. Dancing with the stars Judge Derek Houghon the October 15 episode of the competition, dancing to “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone as part of the season’s Dedication Night.

The couple took the floor barefoot, wearing pink ensembles and put on a graceful and romantic performance, hugging each other to the lyrics, “Oh, I hope I don’t lose you.” They ended their dance with a kiss.

The appearance marked Hayley’s triumphant return to the series after she underwent emergency skull surgery to treat a burst blood vessel last December. In a recorded post that aired before their performance, Derek spoke about the frightening incident that occurred during the couple’s performance Symphony of Dance Tour stop in Washington DC

“I was on stage and she was supposed to come out,” remembers the 39-year-old. “The stage manager just walked out and said, ‘Hey, she’s not coming on stage.’ She was on the side of the stage, having severe seizures and basically dying.”
