The NFL world was rocked by two blockbuster trades on Tuesday. First the New York Jets surprisingly traded for Davante Adams, then the Buffalo Bills acquired Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns. While their rivals are pursuing high-end talent, the Chiefs continue to stay busy despite their obvious need at wide receivers.

Luckily for them, the Amari Cooper trade has a big glimmer of hope. To make room for the five-time Pro Bowler, the Buffalo Bills have released Marquez Valdes-Scantling, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. This gives the Chiefs a great opportunity to bring back a playmaker who knows the system.

When asked what type of wide receiver Kansas City would consider trading for, head coach Andy Reid gave preference to someone who “has experience on offense.”

Valdes-Scantling fits the bill. After signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chiefs in the 2022 offseason, MVS spent two seasons and won two Super Bowls in Kansas City. He was extremely frustrating to watch at times and overall failed to live up to expectations.

At the same time, Chiefs fans can’t forget his contributions last postseason. In the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens, he caught the game-winning 32-yard pass late in the fourth quarter. This was followed by a touchdown against the 49ers in the Super Bowl before he was released in the offseason and ended up in Buffalo.

Through six games, MVS has played just 39% of the snaps, which is the lowest of his career. He was targeted just nine times and managed two catches for 26 yards. The 30-year-old receiver could still make an impact for a Chiefs offense that desperately needs more depth and playmaking.
