Buffalo Bills trade WR Amari Cooper in deal with Cleveland Browns

The Buffalo Bills have acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a third-round pick, the teams announced Tuesday.

The Browns also receive a seventh-round pick in 2026, while the Bills receive a sixth-round pick in 2025 in addition to Cooper.

In six games so far this season, Cooper has 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper’s average of 10.4 yards per catch is the lowest of his career.

Buffalo is 4-2 and in first place in the AFC East, but its passing attack has declined compared to last year. Quarterback Josh Allen is averaging just 193.3 yards per passing game, down from an average of 253.3 a season ago.

After trading receiver Stefon Diggs in the offseason, the Bills have looked to replace his production overall. They have three pass catchers with over 200 yards, but no one on pace for 1,000 yards this season. Two of Buffalo’s top four players in receiving yards are a tight end and a running back.

The Browns are 1-5 and have lost four straight games. Their quarterback, Deshaun Watson, ranks last in quarterback rating among all qualified players.

Cooper, 30, was selected to the Pro Bowl five times, most recently last season. In 2023, he set a career high in receiving with 1,250 yards.

Cooper was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the then-Oakland Raiders before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys midway through the 2018 season. In 146 career games, Cooper has rushed for 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns.

After a win over the New York Jets on Monday, the Bills next play against the Tennessee Titans on October 20th.
