Asmongold faces backlash for controversial comments about Palestine during livestream

Popular streamer Asmongold has sparked controversy after making inflammatory comments about Palestine during a livestream. On October 14, 2024, while discussing the ongoing conflicts in Palestine and Lebanon, the streamer stated that he had “no compassion” for the people of Palestine, describing them as “horrible people” from “an inferior culture.” He continued that Palestinians “would be the ones who would commit genocide if they had the power to do so,” referring to Sharia law in his remarks.

According to the United Nations, the comments come amid reports of human rights abuses in Palestine and food shortages in the northern Gaza Strip. While Asmongold acknowledged that some people were caught in the crossfire, he reiterated his stance, declaring, “At the end of the day, this is an immoral, evil culture. I truly believe that.”

Snippets of the stream quickly spread online, prompting widespread backlash. Critics have called on Twitch to suspend his account, calling his comments hate speech. Many have also questioned the relationships between Asmongold’s streaming organization OTK and its sponsors and developers.

Asmongold, who streams on his alternative channel zackrawrr, has since debated the issue of Palestine with fellow streamer Hasan Piker. So far, neither his main account nor his alternate account have faced any consequences from Twitch.
