Henry Winkler gives a moving speech to Hoda Kotb

Henry Winkler will miss Hoda Kotb.

At the start of his interview with Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on October 15, the Emmy winner took a moment to gush about Hoda, who announced last month that she was leaving TODAY, and at the same time to pay homage to Hoda. She works with Jenna.

“Before I go any further, I want to say this,” Winkler began. “I know there were a lot of people sitting here. There are a lot of guests coming to this show that you’ve been doing for a long time. You two make every guest feel like they are the only guest.”

Winkler then said he was sorry to see Hoda go.

“And I just want to say on behalf of my wife Stacey and I: We will miss you, just like America will miss you,” he said. “Thank you for always welcoming me. There is a chemistry between the two of you that will be very difficult to fulfill. That’s the truth.”

“Well, if you want a job, there’s one that’s available,” Jenna joked.

“But I’m not kidding,” Winkler added of his comments. “Let’s go. I love you very much. You always made me feel wonderful.”

Hoda revealed on September 26 that when she turned 60 in August, she realized it was the right time to leave TODAY.

“I realized that at 60 it was time for me to turn the page and try something new,” she said. “I remember standing outside looking at this beautiful group of people with these beautiful signs and I thought, ‘This is what the peak of the wave feels like to me.’ And I thought it couldn’t get any better and decided this was the right time for me to kind of move on.”

Hoda, whose decision sparked an outpouring of tributes, has daughters Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, who she said she wants to spend more time with.

“Obviously I had my kids late in life, and I thought they deserved a bigger piece of the time that I have,” Hoda said. “I feel like we only have a limited amount of time.

“And despite all that, this is the hardest thing in the world,” she added.
