MIAMI — Miami-Dade County is opening its 2024 public housing waiting list on Tuesday, giving eligible residents a new way to apply for housing assistance.

The application period runs from October 15th to 25th, 2024. During this time, residents looking for affordable housing can apply online for a place on the waiting list for social housing in the district.

The public housing program is intended to provide affordable rental opportunities to low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The program provides subsidized housing to eligible individuals, ensuring access to safe and stable living conditions for those in need.

To be eligible, applicants must meet certain requirements, including income limits based on family size, and provide various forms of documentation during the application process.

The application is free of charge and can only be submitted online via the district’s designated platform during the open period.

Since the number of applicants usually exceeds the number of units available, a lottery system is used to determine who will be placed on the waiting list after the application window closes.
