Mass. Restaurant apologizes after two cast members wore Nazi uniforms

A Hudson restaurant apologized after two people dressed as Nazi SS soldiers during a World War II reenactment on Saturday.

The reenactment was organized by the American Heritage Museum under the title “Battle for the Airfield WWII Reenactment Weekend.” According to the event description, the event included “the establishment of Allied and Axis camps with authentic materials and appearance.”

Reenactors dined at Kith and Kin on Saturday evening, the restaurant’s Facebook page said Sunday.

“The eight people at the table appeared in their costumes: four US soldiers, a military nurse and a couple dressed as SS soldiers,” the post said. “In hindsight, they should have been asked to change before they sat down.”

While the group was dressed for the event, “at a time when anti-Semitic violence continues to rise, we should have been aware that other guests may not have been aware of the local World War II reenactment,” the restaurant said.

“We would never intentionally do anything to offend or hurt anyone in the community,” the statement said. “If we truly believed that these individuals had anti-Semitic beliefs, we would never have allowed them to enter the restaurant.”

“Last night we failed to do so, and we deeply apologize,” the statement concluded.
