Strong cold front brings fall weather to Texas tomorrow!

Another day of record high temperatures as a strong cold front moves through Texas today! A cold front will move south through most of Texas today and tonight, bringing gusty northerly winds and a noticeable drop in temperatures over the coming days.

While high temperatures will remain above 90 degrees across most of Texas today, we’re expecting a drop of 20 to 30 degrees for most people tomorrow! The first frost of the season could occur in the northeast Texas Panhandle this evening. We expect 31 degrees for Perryton and 33 degrees in Canada. Amarillo will drop to 39 degrees.

Significantly cooler temperatures are forecast for Texas through Thursday morning, with 30 to 40 degrees for the northern half of the state and 50 to 60 degrees for the southern third.Significantly cooler temperatures are forecast for Texas through Thursday morning, with 30 to 40 degrees for the northern half of the state and 50 to 60 degrees for the southern third.

Thursday morning we will see the northern half of Texas dip into the 30s and 40s, although we don’t expect widespread below-freezing temperatures. The southern third of Texas will fall into the 50s and 60s.

High temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the low 80s across Texas. We’ll start with a slow warm-up on Friday and Saturday, with 70s and 80s across the state.

A few thunderstorms are possible Wednesday morning and afternoon as the cold front moves south across the Rio Grande Valley, the Lower Texas Gulf Coast and Deep South Texas. Locally heavy rain and gusty winds cannot be ruled out. Our next chance for more widespread precipitation will be across the Texas Panhandle and West Texas on Saturday and Sunday.

High wildfire danger for Texas

Unfortunately, dry weather and severe drought conditions will continue across most of Texas through early next week. The risk of wildfires is now high to very high – and initial attack activity has increased significantly over the last week. Larger fires are possible if the incoming cold front brings a biting air mass with fuels affected by the fall drought over Texas.
