Early voting turnout is high, according to Charlottesville and Albemarle County

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Early voting is underway in Virginia and the deadline to register is fast approaching.

“People are definitely interested in this election,” Albemarle County Clerk Lauren Eddy said.

Thousands of voters in the district are choosing to cast their ballots early.

“Personally we voted 9,734 people. But we actually sent out 9,600 ballots by mail. “We’re currently at about 18,000 voters in Albemarle,” Eddy said.

With nearly 80,000 people registered in the county, Eddy said these numbers are a good start. About 3,000 ballots were mailed for Charlottesville. Even more people showed up to vote early in person.

“We got something back. I think we have about 1,200 of those mailed ballots back. Because personally, we’ve reached over 3,200 so far in the first few weeks of voting,” said Charlottesville Registrar General Taylor Yowell.

Both communities remind that the registration deadline is October 15th.

“Now make sure one of our offices can assist with any issues or questions you may have, and make sure you have the opportunity to cast your ballot and vote, whether at the start or on Election Day.”

You can register in person during office hours, by mail or online.
