Dan Quinn confirms Jonathan Allen is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle

Commanders defensive lineman Jonathan Allen is actually out for the remainder of 2024.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn confirmed in his press conference Monday that Allen suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens.

“Jon has a torn pectoral muscle and it’s a big blow for us,” Quinn said. “Jon Allen was honestly one of the main players here – his style of play, his attitude. We are really disappointed in him as a man and a ballplayer. We will certainly miss him this season and he will probably undergo surgery in the coming days.”

The 29-year-old Allen has been on the field for 62 percent of the Commanders’ defensive shots so far this season. He recorded 15 total tackles with 2.0 sacks, two tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.

Quinn said it won’t be one player that will replace Allen and his performance in the lineup.

“Certainly there will be a variety of people in the roles and how we use guys to do that because Jon is rare. He has unique skills and talents,” Quinn said. “It’s not just plug and play. The good news is that we have a big, strong crew and we’re going to introduce them all a little differently to find ways to make this happen. But we will definitely miss Jon – the strength and attitude he brings.”

Allen, the No. 17 pick in the 2017 draft, totaled 41.0 sacks in his 107 games for Washington. A two-time Pro Bowler, he recorded 5.5 sacks with 10 tackles for loss and 19 QB hits last season.
