The Boston Bruins have bounced back well after a weak start to the season, posting back-to-back wins over the Canadiens and Kings.

They will look to extend their winning streak to three games Monday afternoon against a division rival. My Panthers vs. Bruins predictions see David Pastrnak and the Bruins getting revenge on Florida after an ugly loss in their first meeting of the season.

My analysis
David Pastrnak led the entire NHL in shot attempts a season ago, and he has picked up where he left off at the start. He has collected 13 shots on 23 attempts in three games and has cleared his line in two of three games.

He didn’t get the job done against the Kings, but they are a strong shot-suppression team that plays low-event hockey. The Florida Panthers – despite being a much better team – still offer a better shooting game for Pastrnak.

In Kings games this season, there was an average of 115 shot attempts (for + against) per 60 minutes. The Panthers are at around 125, which puts them significantly higher when it comes to playing eventful hockey.

There are a few more things for Pastrnak at this point. The Panthers are without two-way star Aleksander Barkov, while Matthew Tkachuk is also injured. These injuries drastically impact team defense and Florida’s ability to control the flow of the game, meaning the Bruins should spend more time up front.

Discipline remains a concern for the Panthers. A season ago, they averaged 6:03 shorthanded minutes per game, more than all but the Ducks. It’s still early, but Florida is averaging 6:04 per game so far.

If the Cats give Boston a few chances on the power play, that will increase the shot limit and ceiling for Pastrnak.

Pastrnak has four points in three games and has been on the scoresheet at least once in each game. This is a good combination for him to pile up the shots, and that generally leads to success, either by Pastrnak scoring himself or by shooting, which in turn creates rebound opportunities for others to pounce on.

Pastrnak has scored at least one point in eight of his last ten home games. Looking further afield, he has scored in 15 of the last 20 and 23 of the last 30 in Boston. He’s dynamite – especially if Jim Montgomery can get him on the ice in more favorable matchups.

I like the connection that comes when Boston wins and at the same time gets a big night from Pastrnak. Considering the injuries to Barkov and Tkachuk, the Stars are poised to give the Bruins a small taste of revenge against a Panthers team that has given them problems over the past few seasons.
