BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) – For the fourth time in four days and fifth time in two weeks, Palm Beach County Public Schools are closed again today. This time is Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day. We tell you this because children in public schools certainly do not have enough time to learn what the holidays are and why they are celebrated, since education in Palm Beach County appears to be secondary to the holidays.

For those of you not attending the home game, or should we say “stay at home” game, Palm Beach Couty public schools were closed due to Hurricane Helene, which meant nothing. Then the school district was closed again on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday due to Hurricane Milton, which resulted in some power outages in very small parts of Palm Beach County, but certainly not widespread power outages. The damage – and it was minimal damage – was limited to a very small part of the county.

Parents, and we mean many, many, many parents, have contacted BocaNewsNow.com and suggested that the Palm Beach County School District split the county into two operating units. North and South. This way, children in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth Beach and surrounding communities don’t miss school when bad things happen in the north and northwest parts of the region. And vice versa: If something bad happens in Boca, Delray, Boynton or other nearby areas, children in the Glades and other rural parts of PBC will not miss school.

We note that Pine Crest and St. Andrew’s private schools in the area have also closed due to the hurricanes. But American Heritage, which boasts more National Honor Society semifinalists than any other school in Florida, held mandatory virtual classes while all other schools were closed. The good news: The American Heritage Kids will need employees for their future companies.

All private schools in the area – including American Heritage, Pine Crest, St. Andrew’s and North Broward Prep – are in session today.
