We start the week with a sunny fall chill and high temperatures in the lower 60s

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Once again, high pressure will become the main weather pattern across the central Plains and Missouri River Valley. This high pressure area is accompanied by a significant reduction in the jet stream, allowing a pole of significantly colder air from Canada to enter the region. This means morning temperatures here around the metro can drop into the high 30s and low 40s. Some areas farther north may see patchy frost and freeze warnings for some of the northwest counties near the Nebraska-Iowa border until 9 a.m. this morning.

Another dry pattern follows with high pressure but clear skies. There will be plenty of sunshine this afternoon, helping temperatures climb into the low 60s. The coolest temperatures will be Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Sunny skies are expected on Tuesday, with temperatures only in the upper 50s. Gusts of up to 20 miles per hour are also occasionally common during the peak warm season.

Cold air will settle overnight and freezing conditions will prevail in many areas of the Missouri River Valley. Even the subway has a good chance of reaching 32°C from 1am on Wednesday until 9am the same morning. There is now a security guard.

This is the time to check your four Ps. That would be your pipes, pets, plants and people. Be sure to wrap any exposed pipes. Outdoor potted plants and outdoor pets should be brought indoors. If you have friends or relatives in your life who are having a hard time preparing for the cold, make sure you help them so they can be ready too.

Overall, temperatures will begin to warm back into the lower 60s Wednesday afternoon, and temperatures will climb into the lower 70s by Thursday. Windy conditions with speeds up to 30 mph may occur Thursday afternoon and may continue into Friday as we move between high pressure and low pressure in the area.

Next weekend, there will be some possible chances for limited drizzle activity in our far western counties on Saturday, but more likely there will be rain next Monday.
