Cold nights await us, with possible widespread frost

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – There was near-record warmth out there Saturday afternoon as our high temperatures reached 90 degrees at KCI. That is one degree less than the record value. For those of you looking for fall, don’t worry, it’s back tonight! We have a cold front moving through the region later Saturday evening. This brings some cooler changes in the mid 50s on Sunday morning, but you’ll notice big changes in the afternoon as highs only reach the lower 70s! We will have a noticeable northwest wind at 10 to 20 mph, with some stronger gusts. The cooler rise will intensify for Monday. For the first time since late April we will see morning lows in the 30s. Highs will only be around 60° on Monday and Tuesday, so we’ll see a pretty big temperature change over the next few days. Morning lows could dip to the freezing mark Wednesday morning, which looks to be our coldest morning. On Thursday the winds will shift from the south again, bringing us back into the 70s. There’s no major heat in sight, maybe we’re done with the 90s for this year! Since 90 degrees will be reached today, October 12, 2024, this is the fifth last day with over 90 degrees in recorded history. There are signs of rain in the near future! We are monitoring the potential for a system on Saturday that could bring some showers to the region. That’s not entirely clear at the moment, but there are signs of it, at least on our longer-range models. We desperately need the rain, so keep your fingers crossed this week to keep this system together. We’ll watch.

Headlines:

-In the next few days a LARGE cold front will move through with a strong feeling of autumn.

-Cold nights ahead (MW morning lows in the 30s)

-May have extensive frost at times. It was almost freezing cold on Wednesday morning.

-I see a chance of rain next Saturday.
