A man suspected of killing a 72-year-old Rochester Hills man was arrested and taken into custody Saturday in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for a second suspect. Hussein Murray was found dead in his basement on Friday. According to the county sheriff’s office, two men posing as DTE workers are believed to be responsible for the death.

“We appreciate the public’s help in providing us with tips and information related to the murder in Rochester Hills involving the fake DTE workers,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a news release Saturday evening.

Officers found Friday that Murray’s wife was tied up and her hands were duct-taped. She told officers she believed her husband may have been kidnapped. The 72-year-old woman told officers that the two men came to the house on Thursday because of a gas leak. They weren’t allowed in. They returned on Friday and were allowed into the house. According to a press release, Murray went into the basement with the two men, apparently to look for the leak. Murray’s wife was briefly hospitalized after the incident but has since been released.

Murray owned gold and glitter jewelry in Hamtramck, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Saturday. The Oakland County coroner ruled the death a homicide, according to a news release.

“Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of my grandfather Hussein. My grandfather was a man with a heart of gold who treated everyone around him with kindness and compassion. He has made a lasting impact on our family and community and on me.” “I am extremely proud to call him my grandfather,” grandson Hussein Murray said in a statement to the Free Press late Saturday.

“I am forever grateful for the support the community has shown our family during this difficult time. We are also grateful for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department’s tireless work in seeking justice for my grandfather and compassion throughout our grieving process. We are heartbroken “I have received the news of his death, but it will connect our family with the determination he instilled in us by being the man he was,” continued Murray, who takes after his grandfather was named.

The sheriff’s office is investigating whether anything was stolen from the home.

“We are communicating with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office regarding formal charges and, in the meantime, continue to encourage the public to provide us with any information or tips regarding suspect number two,” Bouchard said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
