Mike McCarthy’s decision-making came under fire during the Dallas Cowboys’ stunning loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, when the final score was 47-9.

Dallas struggled offensively throughout the contest, managing just 251 total yards. Dak Prescott went 17 of 33 for 178 yards and threw two interceptions.

The Cowboys repeatedly failed to sustain their attacks, converting on just three of their 13 chances in the third period. McCarthy’s team also settled for field goals after the game began to spiral out of control when Brandon Aubrey scored on a 50-yard attempt in the third quarter with Dallas already trailing 34-6 before the kickoff.

The rushing offense was also disappointing, as the Cowboys as a team gained just 53 yards on 17 attempts on the ground.

Rico Dowdle seemed headed for a bigger role after scoring 20 runs in Dallas’ 20-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5. However, against Detroit on Sunday, he had five runs compared to eight runs for Ezekiel Elliott.

ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe ripped the Cowboys as the Lions attempted trick plays during the blowout:

Shannon Sharpe @Shannon Sharpe

The Lions say F** the Cowboys in the most disrespectful way possible. Try whatever you want. I’ve never seen a lateral 2 the tackle. A so-called lateral 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fans also called out McCarthy and brought up his job security during the game.

After scoring 33 points in a season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns, the Cowboys have not scored more than 25 points in a game in the last five weeks.

With a record of 3-3, Dallas is now in third place in the NFC East. McCarthy’s team needs to regroup after a bye in Week 7 or enthusiasm for his coaching future will continue to grow.
