There is a heated debate on social media about Chinese Olympian Liu Yuchen proposing to his girlfriend and compatriot Huang Yaqiong after she had just received the gold medal she won in badminton.

Yaqiong proudly wore her gold medal around her neck and held a bouquet of flowers in her hand. Yuchen knelt down and proposed marriage: “I will love you forever! Will you marry me?”

After putting the ring on her finger, he kissed her hand to the cheers of the crowd.

It should be noted that Yuchen was eliminated after the group stage of the mixed doubles tournament after playing 2-2 with his partner Ou Xuan Yi.
