Bengals vs. Giants score, live updates: Sunday Night Football takes place in New York as Joe Burrow takes Cincinnati to the Big Apple

Joe Burrow lit up the Baltimore Ravens last week with these incredible stats: 30-for-39, 392 yards and five touchdown passes. It took a special teams faux pas in overtime for Baltimore — and one of Lamar Jackson’s plays of the year — to overcome Burrow and the Bengals’ astounding passing game, and now the reliably slow-starting Bengals find themselves on the verge of being 1-4 Abyss and in the basement of the AFC North.

They travel to New York this week to take on the 2-3 Giants, who have a league-best 22 sacks on defense, and they’ll have to lean on that pass rush to contain Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Co. The Bengals’ offense is under control. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is second in the NFL with 6.0 of those sacks, and 11 different Giants have gotten to the quarterback through the first five weeks of the season, leaving the pass rush largely determined by committee.

The Giants’ running game may also have to be decided by committee this week, as lead running back Devin Singletary is questionable with a groin injury. Because of this injury, he missed the Giants’ 29-20 Week 5 win at Seattle.

Live21 updates

  • Ojulari again!

The Giants now have three sacks in the game after leading the league in that category in Week 6.

  • Azeez Ojulari gets a sack on first down

Even without Kayvon Thibedaux, the Giants are finding edge rushers to keep Burrow in the pocket and get him to the ground after his long run earlier.

  • This penalty was a huge threat and defused the offense, which had a 3-out

A big missed opportunity for New York and they have to dig deep into their own pockets. This penalty could be a turning point in the game if the Bengals manage to go under after the two-minute warning and extend their lead.

  • Darius Slayton’s 56-yard gain was wiped out by a penalty

The Giants were flagged for an ineligible player downfield on an RPO pass. The game would have been by far the longest of the day for the Giants.

  • Tee Higgins makes good use of his big hands and tackle-breaking ability

  • Giants safety Jason Pinnock is questionable to return due to a knee injury

Pinnock left the game after Joe Burrow’s 47-yard touchdown run and has yet to return to the game.

  • Daniel Jones fights for a first down

The two quarterbacks did the heavy lifting on the ground tonight. Jones (three rushes, 28 yards) and Burrow (two carries, 57 yards) are the leading rushers in the game so far.

  • Burrow was cited for intentional landing

A 14-yard penalty on first down by Burrow set up the Bengals’ second and final score from deep in their own end

  • Trey Hendrickson beats Daniel Jones in the Giants backfield

  • Bengals cross midfield

Chase Brown was a focal point of the Cincinnati offense in the early going with three runs for 13 yards and one reception for 11 yards. However, thanks to the Giants defensive line, the drive stalled. Brian Burns stuffed Zach Moss on the final play of the 1st quarter with the Bengals leading 7-0.

  • Germaine Pratt takes over for Daniel Jones

BJ Hill increased the pressure and Cincinnati stopped the Giants’ advance. Daniel Jones and Co. had the ball moving long before the interception, and now the Bengals take the lead in the final minutes of the first quarter.

  • G-Men on the move

Darius Slayton brings Big Blue into Bengals territory, and the Giants follow with a 14-yard screen pass to Tyrone Tracy Jr., who takes over the backfield for the injured Devin Singletary.

  • Giants force 3-and-out

Cincinnati almost had a safety in hand on the second series, but Joe Burrow spun out of a sack and threw the ball away. The Giants take the lead at the end, midway through the first quarter

  • Giants punt in first series

After a quick first-down catch by Darius Slayton on their first offensive snap, the Giants kicked the ball back to the Bengals. New York threw the ball in all four games – the club will be without lead back Devin Singletary for the second straight game as he tries to recover from a groin injury.

  • Joe Burrow has a 47-yard touchdown run

Yes, you read that correctly, and no, that’s not Lamar Jackson in a Bengals jersey. One play after a sack, Burrow set a new career high with a 47-yard scramble for a score.

  • Brian Burns fires Burrow

The NFL’s No. 1 sack team is back at it on the first drive. Burns, who signed a five-year, $114 million contract with the Giants, is making good on his big payday early against Cincinnati.

  • The Bengals get a few first downs on the opening series

A third down scramble by Joe Burrow and an 11-yard reception by Tee Higgins get the Bengals moving and into Giants territory.

  • The Giants have some SNF super alumni in the building

  • Giants are taking over the field in the Big Apple

  • Bengals inactive for Sunday Night Football

    • WR Jermaine Burton

    • DT Lawrence Guy

    • EN Cedric Johnson

    • TE Tanner McLachlan

    • OT Andrew Stüber

    • DT Jay Tufele
