Road closures planned for Army Ten-Miler races

Several roads will be temporarily closed for the 40th annual Army Ten Mile Race this Sunday, October 13th.

Some roads in and around Rosslyn, Crystal City and the Pentagon will be affected. The closure begins at 5 a.m. and lasts until 12:30 p.m

The race begins at 7:50 a.m. on Route 110 near the Pentagon. Runners cross the Key Bridge into DC and walk along the National Mall before returning to Arlington via the 14th Street Bridge. The finish line is at the Pentagon.

Since the first race in 1985, over 450,000 runners have participated in the Army Ten-Miler. With a mission to support Army community outreach and promote physical fitness, the event has raised over $8 million for Army family and morale, welfare and recreation programs.

Road closures

5-9am

  • Army Navy Drive, from S. Hayes Street to S. Fern Street
  • S. Fern Street, between 12Th Street S. and Army Navy Drive
  • Exit 8A, on I-395 southbound

5-10am

  • Eastbound Wilson Boulevard, from N. Kent Street to Route 110 (southbound traffic from Arlington Ridge Road and N. Kent Street is permitted to travel westbound on Wilson Boulevard)
  • I-66 westbound, from Washington DC to Exit 73 (closed by the Metropolitan Police Department and Virginia State Police)

5:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m

  • Army Navy Drive, from S. Fern Street to 12thTh Street S. (Traffic from northbound S. Fern Street will be allowed to travel west on Army Navy Drive after approximately 9:00 a.m.)
  • S. Eads Street, between 12Th Street S. and Army Navy Drive (Traffic coming from residences or hotels in the area may travel southbound on S. Eads Street via 11Th Street S.)
  • S. Eads Street, from Army Navy Drive to Pentagon Reservation/I-395 HOV lanes northbound
  • Exit 10A, on I-395 northbound (access to George Washington Memorial Parkway remains open)
  • Exit 10A, on I-395 southbound
  • Exit 9, on I-395 southbound
  • Exit 8B, on I-395 southbound
  • I-395 HOV exit north to Pentagon City/S. Eads Street
  • I-395 HOV northbound from Crystal City to 14thTh road bridge
  • I-395 HOV southbound exit to S. Eads Street / Pentagon South Parking

5 a.m. to 2 p.m

  • Route 110 in both directions, between Rosslyn and Crystal City
  • Exit 75, on I-66 eastbound

7:45 a.m.-10:00 a.m

  • N. Lynn Street, from the top of the ramp at I-66 (Exit 73) westbound to the Key Bridge (northbound N. Lynn Street traffic will be detoured westbound on Langston Boulevard)
  • Fort Myer Drive, from Key Bridge to Langston Boulevard

7:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m

  • 12Th S. Street, between S. Eads Street and Long Bridge Drive (residents have access to the garages on 12th).Th Street S.)
  • Long Bridge Drive, between 12Th Street S. and Boundary Channel Drive
  • Exit 8C, southbound on I-395

Additionally, there will be no entry or exit to the Pentagon North Parking and Boundary Channel Drive on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, parking is not available for Pentagon employees and patrons of the Pentagon Memorial only are available in the Pentagon South parking lot, accessible from Columbia Pike and S. Joyce Street.

Arrive on race day

Runners and support staff are encouraged to use multimodal services and rideshare services as parking options in the area are limited. A designated rideshare drop-off and pick-up zone has been established on both sides of S. Hayes Street, between Army Navy Drive and 12Th Street S. Spectators are encouraged to use the subway and other public transportation. The Pentagon and Pentagon City subway stations (Blue and Yellow Lines) are within walking distance of the start and finish lines and will open at 7:00 a.m. on race day.

The public should expect an increased police presence in the area and motorists are urged to follow law enforcement directions, observe closures and be aware of increased pedestrian traffic. Drivers should pay attention to temporary no parking signs. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed or towed. If your vehicle is towed, please check the status of your vehicle and its location via the online portal. The online portal is updated in real time. If you cannot locate your vehicle or need additional assistance through the online portal, call the county’s non-emergency number at 703-558-2222.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility

The safety of runners and spectators remains law enforcement’s top priority. The public is urged to be vigilant and alert, particularly in areas with large gatherings of people. Suspicious behavior, items, vehicles and unattended packages should be reported immediately to police for investigation. Spectators and runners can report information directly to police personnel stationed at the race course or call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
