The New York Liberty will look to bounce back on Sunday after the Minnesota Lynx stole their first game on the road in overtime after trailing by as many as 18 points, staging the greatest comeback in WNBA Finals history.

Liberty superstar Breanna Stewart missed a free throw in the final seconds of regulation and a layup in overtime that would have given New York its first-ever Game 1 win The Liberty are 0-6 all-time in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

When asked how the Liberty will regroup after the 95-93 overtime loss, Stewart said they would “take it lightly.”

“We were way ahead and then we had a wild sequence at the end of the fourth round. The start to overtime wasn’t great. I ended up with a great view and didn’t make it,” Stewart said. “But I think this is a series. Of course we really wanted to win at home. But the nice thing is we have another game on Sunday and we will be ready.”

Liberty X-Factors for Game 2

New York’s Jonquel Jones delivered a double-double performance on Thursday, recording a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds along with three assists and a steal. Jones got off to a hot start early in the game and the Lynx had no real answer for her. Jones hauled in four of the Liberty’s 20 offensive rebounds and she will need to continue to play aggressively and use her size for the Liberty to get back in the series.

The Liberty will also need better play from Sabrina Ionescu. Although Ionescu finished with 19 points, it wasn’t an efficient performance for the Olympian. Ionescu shot 8 of 26 from the field and 3 of 9 from three-point range and appeared visibly frustrated with the various coverages the Lynx threw at her. “Sabrina is a competitor. She will prepare for Game 2 and come back strong,” said Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello.

Lynx X-Factors for Game 2

Courtney Williams scored 15 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, including a crucial 4-point play that gave the Lynx the lead for the first time in Game 1 with 5.1 seconds left. Williams usually looks to distribute the ball first – the Lynx led the league with 23 assists per game in the regular season – but Williams must try to score the basketball to keep up with the Liberty.
