The Ohio State Buckeyes coach talks about the heartbreaking loss at Oregon

A good game was expected before Saturday night’s main matchup between the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 3 Oregon Ducks.

When all was said and done, neither team disappointed. Unfortunately, Ohio State failed and ended up falling behind with a final score of 32-31.

The Buckeyes had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but two brutal errors from Jeremiah Smith and Will Howard ended those hopes.

After the game, head coach Ryan Day spoke about his team’s heartbreaking loss. He was very honest but is confident his team can fix the problems.

“We talk about, ‘Take care of football.’ … Turning the ball over and giving it to them in plus territory was a big play in the game. … We kept fighting. We continued to persevere. …Couldn’t quite get to the stops when we needed to and didn’t make it. … We can sit here and watch a play here, a play there. We won’t do that. We will own it. “We’re going to get it fixed,” Day said.

Day also touched on the defense allowing one big play after another. Whenever Oregon needed a play, they seemed to get it.

“It starts with coaching. We have to train it better, challenge it better and train it better in practice.”

He also talked about how his team beat themselves far too often throughout the game. The pain of the loss was clear in his quote.

“There are a few false starts that hurt and that we ultimately cannot accept. … I thought the guys kept fighting, the guys kept hitting. …This hurts, it hurts. … Give Oregon credit, they played well, but there were too many things we didn’t do well.”

After such a disappointing defeat, it can take a lot to get back on track. Hopefully Ohio State doesn’t suffer a hangover from this.

Next up for the Buckeyes is a home game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on October 26th. You will have time to rest, recover and make adjustments before the game.
