ATLANTA – A key voice in Atlanta’s entertainment scene is no longer with us. Popular radio host Wanda Smith passed away Saturday, according to Rick Caffey, senior vice president and market manager of Atlanta’s V-103 Radio. This news came just a day after the star celebrated her birthday.

“Our hearts weigh heavier today as we mourn the loss of our beloved Wanda Smith, someone who always made us smile and who was a huge part of V-103 for years. We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to her family,” Caffey said in an Instagram post.

Smith began co-hosting the show “Frank and Wanda in the Morning” for V-103 – then known as WVEE-FM – in 1998. She held the position for over two decades. Until her fall in 2019, the Atlanta-Constitution Journal reported that she had only had one year off in 2013. In 2014, she returned to co-host with Ryan Cameron.

In addition to her radio work, Smith was also a notable comedian. In addition to being considered one of the writers of BET’s hit television series Def Comedy Jam and Comicview, she also had a long-time weekly gig at the Atlanta Comedy Theater in Norcross. She also appeared in several films including Tyler Perry‘S “Madea Goes to Prison” and “Madea’s Witness Protection.”
