The head and hands of a teenager last seen in Harris County in 2005 were found in a freezer at a home in Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo — The head and hands found in a freezer at a Colorado home have been identified as a teenager who may have been last seen alive in the Houston area.

In January, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office was called to a call in Grand Junction, Colorado, after a human head and hands with forearms attached were found in a freezer in a Colorado home that the teen’s mother had recently sold became.

According to investigators, the house was recently purchased.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered that a human’s head and hands had been discovered in a freezer by someone who had gone to pick up the free device offered by the new owner of the recently sold home,” the sheriff’s office said from Mesa County in a statement.

It took nearly ten months and the use of DNA technology to identify these remains as Amanda Overstreet.

Investigators say Overstreet was last seen alive in 2005, possibly in the Harris County area.

“DNA analysis helped confirm that both the head and hands were that of Amanda Overstreet, a 16-year-old female from the Grand Junction and Garris County, Texas areas,” the coroner’s office said Mesa County in a statement released Friday.

The coroner also said the remains were those of a young woman, indicating Overstreet was likely killed years ago.

“I mean, she was a child. She was 16 years old. She’s just a child,” said Wendy Likes with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. “The last record we have of her being seen was in 2005 and we have no record of her disappearance or of her ever being reported missing by anyone.”

This is important to note.

No one ever reported Overstreet missing.

She was a teenager at the time of her disappearance.

If Overstreet were alive today, she would be in her 30s.

Records obtained by KPRC 2 show Overstreet grew up with his family in the Houston area before moving to Colorado.

It is unclear what happened between her last sighting in 2005 and the discovery of her remains in January.

However, investigators shared a tip.

The home where her remains were found in the freezer was sold by Overstreet’s mother.

KPRC 2 has asked for more details about Overstreet’s mother’s involvement in the case. At the time of this publication we have not received a response.
