Kevin Bacon names 20 of his favorite horror films of all time

Kevin Bacon is an acting legend. In more than four decades, the man has made well over 100 film and television appearances. For Fango readers, the man has been a staple of the horror genre since the beginning of his career, when he died by Pamela Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th. Not only does Bacon star in horror films fairly regularly, but he’s also a pretty big fan of the genre. As proof of this, the 66-year-old warmed up for the season by sharing some of his favorite horror films of all time.

Taking to Instagram, Bacon decided to offer some inspiration for viewing this Halloween season by naming 20 of his personal favorite genre films in no particular order. The list is one that only a true horror lover could spit off the top of their head, covering everything from true classics to underrated gems. Not to mention some of the films he has personally starred in. In his defense, Bacon has been in some damn good films, so let’s not judge him for his favorite films. Here are all the films he mentioned, unranked…

  • Audition
  • Don’t look now
  • A cut of the dead
  • Dawn of the Dead (1978)
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • 28 days later
  • Exit
  • A girl walks home alone at night
  • Let the right person in
  • X
  • pearl
  • MaXXXine
  • The witch
  • The love witch
  • The Blair Witch Project
  • The descent
  • Slide
  • Midsummer
  • martyr
  • Hereditary
  • Smile
  • Turmoil of echoes

There is an awful lot to discuss here. The man came in hot with some ice cold classics in the form of Audition And Don’t look now. He also made it very clear that his Dawn of the Dead The choice fell on the original by George A. Romero from 1978. which graced the cover of FANGORIA #1 at the timeand not Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake, with all due respect. Bacon also showed some love for the sometimes underpopular horror/comedy starring Edgar Wright Shaun of the Dead make the cut. Bacon is clearly a zombie fan, as he is with Danny Boyle 28 days later on his list, which is hard to argue against.

The actor was also more than willing to show some love for modern horror, highlighting the entirety of Ti West X Trilogy, which ended at the beginning of the year MaXXXine. Yes, Bacon was in this film, but he had nothing to do with it X And pearl other than being a fan. He also called out to Ari Aster Hereditary and Midsommar, both of which have undoubtedly achieved the status of modern classics. Again, it was a choice that no one in their right mind could disagree with, as Bacon also brought out Jordan Peele’s Oscar winner Exit. No notes.

Showing some love for himself, Bacon also rounded out the list by including severely underrated films from 1999 Turmoil of echoeswhich, in my humble opinion, was correct. He decided to highlight some of his daughter Sosie Bacon’s work and also called out the big hit of 2022 Smilewhich was directed by Parker Finn. Overall, it’s a nice list that ranges from indie gems to blockbusters in the genre. We commend you and your good taste, Mr. Bacon.
