Luther Burden III apparently suffers a shoulder injury and leaves the game against UMass

Luther Burden III appeared to suffer a shoulder injury in the 3rd quarter of Saturday’s game against UMass. Brady Cook, with the Tigers leading 24-3, threw an ill-advised ball over the middle that forced a massive hit on Burden’s shoulder, knocking him to the ground.

Burden remained on the ground for a few seconds before cautiously walking away from the field under his own power, although his arm was dangling. Burden soon went to the injury tent and after about 5 minutes made his way to the locker room.

Trainers say they are treating his left shoulder. Burden’s ankle band was removed and he now sits on the sidelines without a helmet or pads. According to the live broadcast, Burden is considered doubtful to return for this game, but with the score at 31-3 it would be surprising if he comes back today.

To put it simply: Burden is one of the best receivers in college football. He totaled 5 receptions for 59 yards and also threw the ball twice for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The Tigers lead UMass 31-3 with 8:51 left in the 4th quarter.
